PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To indicate contents of a cell using a character string, and also to remove a limit for the number of characters in a character string for indicating contents of a program in an original PGC (or a program chain in a user definition PGC) or contents of the cell. SOLUTION: In a configuration for recording and reproducing a video signal using a VR format, an extension information recording means is provided for generating extension information comprised of character string information that is information indicative of an inputted character string and corresponding information that is information indicative of a target to which the character string is made to correspond (S4), and recording the extension information on an optical disk (S6). An upper limit for the number of characters in a character string indicated by the character string information is made infinite, and a target which can be made to correspond to the character string according to the corresponding information, is settled within a range including a program, a program chain and a cell.
