<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus where carrier depletion is accurately controlled while giving consideration to the temperature change of a developer, and the life of the developer is determined, and also, image density is stably controlled at any time through the life of the developer, and also, toner-fogging and toner-scattering are prevented, regardless of a monochromatic image or a color image. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus for forming an electrostatic latent image on a photoreceptor as an image carrier, and developing the electrostatic latent image with toner as developer supplied from the developer carrier of the developing apparatus, the image forming apparatus is provided with a temperature detecting means for detecting the temperature near the developing apparatus or the temperature of the developer, (an image area ratio detecting means for detecting the area ratio of the image to be formed), and a developer driving distance detecting means for detecting the developer driving distance of the developing apparatus, and the life of the developer is determined on the basis of the developer driving distance (and average image area ratio) detected by the aforesaid respective detecting means and the average working temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
