PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical branching device which uniformly branches wavelength multiplexed signal light as a plurality of signal light beams by using an MMI. SOLUTION: In the optical branching device, the wavelength multiplexed signal light prepared, by multiplexing a plurality of the signal light components which have different wavelengths, respectively is made incident and may be transmitted, and N lines of wavelength multiplexed signal light may be emitted, by uniformly branching the signal light component into N lines of the signal light components, respectively, wherein N=2, 3, 4.... Therein, the optical branching device is provided with an optical transmission path capable of transmitting the wavelength multiplexed signal light. The optical transmission path is capable of generating N lines of emission light, according to the mode dispersion along the transmission direction of the multimode excited in the width direction vertical to the transmission direction for each of the signal light components. The optical transmission path has a shape optimized for the signal light component, having wavelengthλk satisfying the following relation;λk≥(λ1+λn)/2, whereinλ1 is the minimum wavelength andλn is the maximum wavelength among wavelengths of the respective signal light components.
