PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To send an electronic mail with an image to be relayed by a repeater without making a user of an image communication apparatus mind the image processing capacity and the address designating method inherent to the repeater, after the image communication apparatus forms the image matched with the repeater's image processing capacity to form the electronic mail meeting specifications peculiar to the repeater. SOLUTION: The image communication apparatus connected to a repeater over a network for sending an electronic mail via the repeater to a designated party comprises a means for designating a party, a means for specifying the type of repeaters, a means for selecting the read format of images to be relayed by the specified repeater by the specifying means, a means for reading the image, based on the read format selected by the selecting means, a means for forming an electronic mail together with the read image by the image reading means, and a means for sending out the electronic mail to the repeater.
