PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a bound article from being damaged due to discharging of a poor bound article. SOLUTION: This binding apparatus comprises a holding means 36 arranged at a rotary drum 32 having an openable or closable pressing member 34 for use in holding an article to be bound, a supplying means 38 for inserting the article to be bound at a supplying position, a binding material tension means 44 for holding the extremity end of a band-like bound material 2 of an original band 6, drawing it out up to a tension applying position and transversely arranged between the openings of the pressing member, and a bound material cutting means 42 for inserting the bound material into the pressing members and cutting the bound material wound around an outer circumference by a predetermined length at an upstream side from the supplying position. An inferior part detecting sensor 66 for detecting an inferior part of the bound material fed out of the original band is arranged at an upstream side than the cutting means. In addition, there is provided an inferior part wasting and processing control means 68 in which the detected inferior part is drawn out by the tension applying means to a position below the cutting means, thereafter the detected inferior part is cut by the cutting means and processed to be wasted.
