PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contact the user of a missing portable telephone by simple operation, even when the portable telephone has been made into a locked state by remote operation. SOLUTION: To the missing portable telephone, its owner transmits a password by remote operation. The portable telephone detects the password by a lock instruction detector 6, and a control unit 5 makes the telephone into a locked state if the password is matched. If an arbitrary key in its key operation part 2 is depressed by a third person, a message to the effect that a telephone call is made to the owner is displayed on its display unit 1. If an arbitrary key is depressed again, a message to the effect that the telephone is in contact with the user is displayed in the display unit 1. When the telephone is in its service area, a call is automatically made to its registered telephone number 3a, and the telephone is made into a communicable state. When the telephone is outside the service area, a message to the effect that mail will be sent to the owner after moving into the service area is displayed in the display unit 1, and mail with a message 4b to the effect that the portable telephone has been found is automatically sent to a registered mail address 3b.
