PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a green-emitting phosphor which is used in a high-luminance white-emitting element and exhibits a high light emission luminance chiefly when excited with blue light emitted from a blue-emitting diode. SOLUTION: The green-emitting phosphor is represented by the formula: (Ca<SB>1-x-y-z</SB>A<SB>x</SB>Ce<SB>y</SB>Mn<SB>z</SB>)S, (wherein A is an at least one element selected from strontium (Sr) and barium (Ba); x is in the range: 0≤x≤0.1; y is in the range: 5×10<SP>-4</SP>≤y≤1×10<SP>-2</SP>; z is in the range: 1×10<SP>-6</SP>≤z≤1×10<SP>-3</SP>; and z≤y/10).
