PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a weld metal capable of securing sufficient fracture toughness even if its hardness in a welded joint part is≤220 even in the welding of thick steel having high strength and also having a plate thickness of >50 mm. SOLUTION: In the electrogas arc welded joint having excellent toughness, the weld metal has a composition, by mass% of each chemical component, 0.01 to 0.10% C, 0.2 to 0.6% Si, 1.0 to 2.0% Mn, 0.5 to 3.0% Ni,≤0.5% Mo, 0.005 to 0.025% Al, 0.01 to 0.05% Ti, 0.003 to 0.009% B,≤0.007% N and 0.02 to 0.05% O, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and the value of CE in the weld metal shown by the formula (A) is 0.36 to 0.42: CE=C+Si/24+Mn/6+(Cu+Ni)/40+(Cr+Mo+V)/5 (A); wherein, C, Si, Mn, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mo and V are the average mass% of each chemical component in the weld metal.
