PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a pale brick having large marketability at a low cost without deteriorating the mechanical strength of the brick. SOLUTION: In the production of fired brick by forming red brick clay as a raw material and drying and firing at 1,000-1,300°C, the production of ferric oxide causing red color is suppressed to make the color light and pale color by mixing 3 to 10 wt% of zinc or zinc compound with the raw material. In the method of producing light and pale colored fired brick by using the red brick clay as the raw material and mixing 3-10% zinc or zinc compound with the same, the color of the brick is accelerated to become pale and the cost is reduced by mixing 20-60 wt.% coal ash containing≤8 wt.% iron oxide per the whole weight of the brick.
