PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a band saw blade installation assisting device in double-post type horizontal band saw machine and band saw blade installation method using the device, easily installing a band saw blade while the tooth part of the band saw blade is kept from interfering with the band saw machine body. SOLUTION: In this band saw blade installation assisting device 30 in a double-post type horizontal band saw machine 1 where a saw blade housing, the rear of which is inclined upward about 45 degrees to the horizontal plane is provided to freely elevate in the vertical direction along a pair of guide posts, a band saw blade guide means 31 is provided on the front of the horizontal band saw machine. The band saw blade guide means 31 guides the intermediate area of the lower travel part 23L of the annular band saw blade to the outer peripheral parts of a driving wheel and a driven wheel in installing the annular band saw blade 33 on the driving wheel 17 and the driven wheel 21.
