PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microporous membrane made of a polyolefin which is on a high quality level and improves pore closing properties, thermal membrane-breaking resistance, and heat shrinkage at the same time. SOLUTION: The microporous membrane made of a polyolefin has a specified polyethylene as an essential component, a ratio of the molecular weight of≤10,000 of 8-60 wt.%, a viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) of 100,000-2,000,000, a porosity of 20-95%, and a heat shrinkage factor at 100°C of≤10%.
