<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a submarine observation system capable of reducing device size and cost, having extendability and informing observation results even in a disturbed condition. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of carrier lights allocated to each submarine observation device 2 are sent to optical submarine cable 3a (downward) by WDM from a land end station device 1. In the submarine observation device 2, only a specific carrier light is branched with an optical branching filter 11, and an observing apparatus 15 forms observation signal showing observation results. The carrier light branched with the optical branching filter 11 is intensity-modulated by an optical amplifier 12 according to the observation signal, multiplexed with an optical multiplexer 14 and again sent to the optical submarine cable 3b (upward), and sent back to the land end station device 1 of the transmission origin. The land end station device 1 can obtain the observation signal of each observed point by receiving branched carrier light of each wavelength, can construct a system with a single optical fiber, can extend by increasing and decreasing the carrier light and can receive the observation signal with any one of the land end station devices even in the case of break of the optical submarine cable. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
