PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hair-treating agent solving a problem of smell and also exhibiting a design-forming effect similar to the case of using a high concentration of cysteamine even in the case that the used cysteamine concentration is low, and a method for treating the hair characterized by using the hair-treating agent. SOLUTION: This hair-treating agent is characterized by having 0.5-3 wt. % cysteamine concentration and 8.0-11 pH. The hair-treating agent is characterized by having 2-3 wt. % cysteamine concentration and 7.5-11 pH. The hair-treating agent is characterized by having 0.5-3 wt. % cysteamine concentration and 8.0-10 pH. The hair-treating agent is characterized by having 2-3 wt. % cysteamine concentration and 7.5-10 pH. The hair-treating agent is characterized by having 0.5-2.0 wt. % cysteamine concentration and 9.2-9.5 pH. The hair-treating agent is characterized by having 1.3-2.5 wt. % cysteamine concentration and 8.5-9.2 pH.
