PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition containing as active ingredient a protein (enzyme) that has APP(amyloid precursor protein) production inhibitory activity or Aβ(amyloidβ) production inhibitory activity and is useful as an agent for ameliorating neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease, and to provide a screening system for candidate substances that promote APP production inhibitory activity or Aβproduction inhibitory activity. SOLUTION: The pharmaceutical composition contains as the active ingredient (a) a polypeptide consisting of an amino acid sequence represented by the sequence No.1 and/or (b) a polypeptide consisting of an amino acid sequence where one or several amino acids are deleted, inserted, substituted or added in the amino acid sequence mentioned in (a) and having APP production inhibitory activity or Aβproduction inhibitory activity.
