<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform economical and high-quality optical transmission by extending a transmission distance without arranging relays. <P>SOLUTION: A branch station 30 allows stimulating light incident to an optical fiber in which a branched reception light signal flows, includes optical stimulation sections 31-1, 31-2 for performing optical amplification with the optical fiber as an amplification medium, and performs the optical transmission with an optical branchpoint without relays. An optical branching device 40 has optical amplifiers 41-1, 41-2 and an optical branch 42. The optical amplifiers 41-1, 41-2 allow the stimulating light that is generated by the branch station 30 and flows on a line to be turned back to the side of an opposing line in which the transmission light signal from the branch station 30 flows, stimulates an amplification medium 41c doped with an active substance for optical amplification installed on the opposing line, and amplifies the power of the transmission light signal from the branch station 30.
