摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress influence of noise caused owing to a temperature rise and to suppress noise and an increase in power consumption by controlling the operation of a cooling means for cooling an imaging element according to a read mode.

SOLUTION: An image reader which is equipped with the imaging element CCD, and can set a plurality of read modes indicating kinds of image data to be generated and reads an image formed on a document by the imaging element CCD to generate the image data according to the set read mode is equipped with the cooling means 203 for cooling the imaging element and a control means 100 of performing control to operate the cooling means 203 or control not to operate the cooling means 203 according to the set read mode.
