PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing cotton fiber that has gloss on the fiber surface, soft fabric texture and excellent dyeability and a method for producing cotton fiber-including fabrics. SOLUTION: The kemp (fiber parts having weak strength and poor dyeability) on the surface of cotton fiber is thoroughly removed to increase the smoothness of fiber surface and to inhibit the occurence of adverse effect, for example, deterioration of the fiber. For this purpose, fabrics or the like made of cotton fiber are treated with an aqueous solution of potassium hydroxide having a surface tension of 75 dyn/cm<SP>2</SP>, until the static friction coefficient becomes 50 to 75% of the virgin product under no tension, or treated until the static friction coefficient becomes 40 to 65% of the virgein. In these treatment, when necessary, a penetrating agent (a surfactant) is added to the aqueous soltion of potassium hydroxide or the like having a surface tension of less than 75 dyn/cm<SP>2</SP>.
