PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional image processing circuit: since the conventional image processing circuit does not have the function of extending 1080I signals in a longitudinal or transverse direction, though the conventional circuit has the function of converting 480I or 480P signals having an angle of field of 4:3 into various aspect modes for displaying the signals on a screen of 16:9, users can not perform such aspect changeovers as performing display excluding side panels, or have to consider cost increase to do so, in the case of 1080I signals comprising side panels. SOLUTION: In the case of HD video images comprising side panels, a microcomputer 105 judges depression of a specific key, controls an AV decoder 109, and performs control so as to output signals as 480P signals from which the side panels have been cut, resulting in enabling aspect changeovers as usual 480I or 480P 4:3 video images by the use of a video signal processing circuit 103.
