PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device capable of reducing the amplitude of an image signal which is outputted when photoelectric conversion portions of horizontally adjacent pixels are coupled. SOLUTION: Horizontally adjacent pixels G11, G21 are defined as one group unit, a MOS transistor T7 of the pixel G21 is turned off and a MOS transistor T9 is turned on, so that photo-diodes PD of the pixels G11, G21 can be coupled. At such a time, the pixel G21 operates as an invalid pixel but the voltage value of a signalϕVRS applied to MOS transistors T6, T8 of the pixel G21 is made lower than a DC voltage VRS, thereby reducing the amplitude of an image signal comprised of outputs of valid and invalid pixels.
