PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an upright injection molding machine of which the overall height required during maintenance services can be kept at a lowest level and therefore, shows excellent workability and the achievement of improved workability without fear about interfering with a ceiling and also is free from the possibility about damaging a plant building and machinery due to the erroneous setting of a limiting level, and a method for controlling the retreat of an injection unit of the upright injection molding machine. SOLUTION: The retreat stroke range of the injection unit is distinguished between a stroke range during normal molding and a stroke range for performing maintenance services to a screw cylinder and also it is so arranged that these retreat operations can be distinguishably controlled. Besides, an interlock mechanism is introduced so as to allow the retreat stroke of the injection unit during maintenance services only when a mold is clamped. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
