PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing copy protection of an optical disk by applying a destructive data having a scarce DSV characteristic. SOLUTION: For encoding by using multi-codal codes, it is necessary for an encoder to select a data symbol which enables producing at least one destructive code word string. When a code word has a large DSV absolute value and a substitute code word is not present, when all code words are equal, or when all the substitute code words are against RLL rules, a possible code word to a data symbol is chosen.
