PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify a supply system for a signal necessary for control of a column switch. SOLUTION: The semiconductor memory device includes a bit line to be coupled to a memory cell, a data-bus line, a gate which is disposed between the bit line and the data-bus line and controls the coupling between the bit line and the data-bus line, and a signal generating circuit which generates at least one signal for controlling opening/closing of the gate in accordance with data that is to be written in the memory cell.
