<p>This invention provides a method of providing a coating of titanium dioxide to an article and the article with this coating. Firstly, a sol mixture is formed by mixing a precursor of titanium dioxide with a solvent at an acidic pH, and the preferred pH is 1-2. Secondly, the sol mixture is coated onto the article. The precursor of titanium dioxide is selected from the group of titanium alkoxides, titanium nitrates, and titanium halides. The solvent is alcohol or water. And the alcohol is selected from the group consisting of ethanol, propanol, and butanol. The method of this invention may coat titanium dioxide onto a substrate, e.g. an an article, without application of high temperatures. The method of this invention is applicable to various substrates including textiles, plastics and so on. Further, the adhesion between the titanium dioxide coating and the article substrate may be improved.</p> |
