The aim of the invention is to guarantee a reliable damping of the belt drive's behaviour by reducing the rotational uniformity of in particular the crankshaft (5) of the internal combustion engine (2) and by eliminating vibrations and resonance. To achieve this, an eccentric belt pulley or chain pulley (4) is located on the crankshaft (5) for guiding the belt drive element (3). According to another embodiment, an elastic, essentially circular belt pulley or chain pulley (4) is located on the crankshaft (5) for guiding the belt drive element (3). According to a third embodiment, the aim is achieved by a belt drive comprising a combined eccentric belt or chain pulley and a circular, elastic belt or chain pulley (4), located on the crankshaft (5).
