The device has a blower arranged below/within a tubular housing for sucking air in the housing and for producing an air flow in the axial direction via the housing. An illuminant (12) is arranged within the housing and emits ultraviolet (UV) radiation in the range of wavelength of about 250 nano meters during the air flow via the housing to sterilize the air. Reflectors (13) are arranged in polygon form in the cross section of housing.
