The vertical bag forming, filling and sealing machine includes a film supply roll (2), a forming collar (4) for the forming of the film into a sleeve (5), a vertically orientated filling pipe (6) with a filling station (7) above it, a longitudinal sealing unit (9) for the longitudinal welding of the sleeve, and a transverse welding unit (12) with two jaws (13) to produce top (14) and bottom (15) welded seams. The welding jaws of the transverse welding unit in the closed position are provided directly beneath the bottom end of the filling pipe so that a stack (37) which loads a bottom region is accumulated back into the filling pipe. An independent claim is included for a method for the operating of a bag forming, filling, and sealing machine.
