An LSI layout apparatus is provided with a layout database for storing pattern data of circuit layout patterns, an editing buffer for storing the read pattern data, a design table which is provided for each circuit design for storing design information indicating the editing buffer wherein the pattern data is stored, a display table for storing display information of the circuit layout pattern to be displayed, and a display part, which reads out a circuit layout pattern layer from the design information from the editing buffer and displays the pattern data of each layer. The LSI layout apparatus adds identification information to each layer unit.
