<p>The rotor drum (124), basically cylindrical in shape and fitted with blades, is made from a metal alloy and has a rear end (124b) equipped with a stiffener (140) of a composition material. the stiffener can be located in an annular recess (124h) lying coaxially with the drum's lengthwise axis and open radially outwards, and is made from long carbon fibres in a thermosetting resin matrix. In a variant the stiffener can be wound round an end projection on the drum, and the fibres can also be e.g. of boron, silicon, boron carbide or silicon carbide.</p> |
