An ink jet printer comprises a printhead drive unit and a cartridge. The cartridge includes the printhead controller. The printhead controller includes a plurality of inverters (305,307) connected in series to constitute a buffer circuit (301) for receiving control signals (A1,SEL) to control the enable status of the nozzle in order to determine whether to jet out the ink. <IMAGE>
