A cooking plate 4 temperature monitoring assembly 30 is located in an electrical heating arrangement 30 spaced above an electrical heating element 20 and in contact with the lower surface (10, figure 2) of the cooker plate 4. The temperature sensing assembly 30 includes a temperature sensitive resistor element 38 and an electrically insulating layer 92. The insulating layer 92 is self supporting and is located between the hob plate 4 and the sensor element 38, an upper surface of the insulation layer 92 contacting the underside (10, figure 2) of the hot plate 4 and a lower surface contacting the sensor element 38. The temperature sensing element 38 measures the temperature of the region overlying the plate and so measures the temperature of a cooking utensil (8, figure 2) on the plate 4. The provision of an insulating member 92 removes the requirement for an isolating transformer. |
