DEODORIZATION AND DISINFECTION METHOD FOR PAPERMAKING WATER AND SLIME CONTROL AGENT USED THEREFOR

This invention is aimed to provide a method of economically sterilizing and deodorizing water in paper manufacture. Said method of sterilizing and deodorizing water in paper manufacture is characterized in adding an aqueous solution of sodium hypochlorite which is adjusted by hydrochloric acid to acidic condition with pH above 4 and has effective chlorine at the concentration of 1000 to 10000 ppm, preferably 2000 to 8000 ppm, to a water tank in a white water system or scum recovery system, and adjusting the concentration of effective chlorine to 100 to 10 ppm. Said method can inhibit the formation of slime and achieve deodorization at economical cost. Said method is effective even when the water in paper manufacture is neutral after aforesaid addition, and is more effective when said water is acidic.
