Brake device for an electric drive motor and piece of furniture

The brake unit (15) for an electric motor includes a brake element (5,6,7) for setting the motor armature shaft (1) when the motor is at stand still. An energy store applies a force to the brake member when the motor is stopped. An actuator actuates the brake unit and cools it by removing the force from the brake member when the motor is running. An actuator input is provided for feeding a force and/or signal to actuate the actuator. The brake unit also has a brake rotor (4) in fixed connection with the armature shaft. Independent claims also cover also cover an item of furniture including such a unit.
