The chair has a central spinal member 38 that connects the backrest 34, seat 30, footrest 32 and wheel assembly 60. Seat and footrest are foldable upwards to a vertical position alongside the backrest. The spinal member can be split and separated at section 230 into upper and lower portions, the upper supporting at least the backrest and the lower the footrest and wheel assembly. Once dismantled the upper member can be connected through connectors 232 side to side with the lower portion for storage purposes. A plunger type locking mechanism is provided for the footrest and for the chair, and a brake mechanism is described for the wheel assembly. The wheel assembly can be a single pair of wheels on a common assembly axis or further pairs having common axis rotating around the assembly axis, as used to overcome steps. A further wheel assembly can be releasably attached to either side of the existing assemblies in order to provide an improved ride on soft surfaces. |
