The container has a body and a lid, which occupies a closed position on the body from which it can be released by means of a lifting mechanism. A carrying handle (14) is mounted on the body in an articulated manner. The lifting mechanism comes into operation by pivoting the carrying handle (14) about its coupling axis. The lifting mechanism can be activated and deactivated by an adjusting action therefor.
