Azoles as malonyl-coa decarboxylase inhibitors useful as metabolic modulators

Compounds selected from the group consisting of compounds of formula (I) or (II), are disclosed. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising these compounds are also disclosed. The described compounds are useful, in the manufacture of a medicament for inhibiting malonyl CoA decarboxylase, in the manufacture of a medicament for shifting fatty acid metabolism to carbohydrate metabolism in a patient or, in the manufacture of a medicament for treating diseases or syndromes associated with fatty acid and glucose metabolism by increasing malonyl CoA concentration in a patient.
