The barrier has a sensor (37) mounted on one of two posts and that detects the movement of an intermediate section (36) of a wire. The section (36) is held by a suspension unit (34) tensioning the wire and is connected to main sections (33, 35) of the wire. The sections of the wire are held between the posts and provided along the length of the wire between ends of the wire and the unit (34). An independent claim is also included for a fence comprising a barrier.
