A baggage hoist installed at or adjacent an airport air bridge, airport walkway, or airport passenger terminal, the hoist having a threaded column, a platform, connection means moveably connecting the platform to the column, and drive means, the hoist being formed such that when it is in use the drive means can be activated to turn the threaded column to cause the connection means to move up or down the column, with the result that the platform is moved up or down in like fashion between a fully lowered position and a fully elevated position.
