The procedure makes comparison (30) between the initial program instructions (10) and data held in a description file (16). Calls to external procedures are only made when they are previewed and authorized in the description file (16). This prevents virus activated operations taking over normal program operation. - The procedure for monitoring the operation of a program on a computer includes comparing (30) the initial program instructions (10) with data held in a description file (16) associated with the initial program. The description file includes data relating the to the procedure calls which are external to the initial program, effected by the program instructions. During the execution (38,40,42,44,46,48) of the instructions of the initial program, calls to external procedures are only made when they are previewed and authorized in the description file (16). The description file (16) may also contain data relating to the execution environment of the initial program, and a test is carried out to determine whether the operations of reading and/or writing data to be carried out within the environment are previewed in the description file.
|
