PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip storing apparatus which can safely store chips by surely preventing the firing of the chips by a simple and inexpensive configuration. SOLUTION: Air supplying holes 28 are formed in a lid member 25 of a lid 22 provided on a container body 21 for storing the chips discharged from a machine tool. The air supplying holes 28 are opened and closed by an air supplying hole opening and closing member 31 according to the deformation of a bimetal 41 caused by the internal temperature of the container body 21 so that the air supplying holes 28 are closed in a state that the internal temperature of the container body 21 rises to a specified temperature. As a result, the rise of the internal temperature of the container body 21 is suppressed by suppressing the oxidation of the chips stored in the container body 21 by the simple and inexpensive configuration. The chips stored in the container body 21 can be gradually oxidized while surely preventing the heat generation and firing of the chips stored in the container body 21.
