<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the structure of an image forming apparatus and to achieve reduction of cost by providing the image forming apparatus having an ADF not requiring a complicated attaching mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 is provided with an original placing table 2, an original reading part 3, an image forming part 4, a paper feeding part 5, an interior paper ejecting part 6, the automatic document feeder 7, a post processor 8 and a transfer material ejecting and transporting path 9, etc. Here, since the automatic document feeder 7 is installed below the document reading part 3, when image formation is carried out by placing the original on the original placing table 2 without using the automatic document feeder 7, it is not necessary to open and close the automatic document feeder 7, which heavy. Therefore, a complicated hinge part is not necessary for the opening and closing mechanism of an original cover 21.
