PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device capable of efficiently and stably operating even in a low output operation since no input inductance is required to miniaturize it and to suppress its cost, and its energy loss is suppressed. SOLUTION: In this discharge lamp lighting device equipped with a capacitor 8 one end of which is connected to a connection part connected with a primary winding Wa and a switch 4 and the other end of which is connected to a voltage source 7, and a capacitor 9 one end of which is connected to a connection part connected with a primary winding Wb and a switch 5 and the other end of which is connected to a voltage source 7, when a reverse current flows in the switch 4 or the switch 5 which has been switched off by a control means 3, the switch 4 or the switch 5 is switched on.
