METHOD FOR PRODUCING OPTICALLY ACTIVE 3-ALKYL-3-ARYLPROPIONIC ACID AND OPTICALLY ACTIVE 3-ALKYL-3-ARYLPROPIONIC ACID ALKYL ESTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an industrially suitable optically active 3-alkyl-3-arylpropionic acid and an optically active 3-alkyl-3-aryl propionic acid alkyl ester, capable of obtaining simultaneously the optically active (S or R)-3-alkyl-3-arylpropionic acid and the optically active (R or S)-3-alkyl-3-aryl propionic acid alkyl ester at a high E value from a 3-alkyl-3-arylpropionic acid alkyl ester (a racemic mixture) by a simple method by using a small amount of an enzyme. SOLUTION: This method for producing the optically active 3-alkyl-3-arylpropionic acid and the optically active 3-alkyl-3-aryl propionic acid alkyl ester is characterized by selectively hydrolyzing one of the enantiomers of the 3-alkyl-3-arylpropionic acid alkyl ester (the racemic mixture) in the presence of the enzyme to produce the optically active (S or R)-3-alkyl-3-aryl propionic acid and also unreacted optically active (R or S)-3-alkyl-3-arylpropionic acid alkyl ester [further, having a reverse absolute configuration to a compound expressed by formula (II)].
