PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology enabling suitable premixed compression self-ignition combustion in a wider operation range by performing good premixing even in a high engine speed and/or a heavy load operation zone in a premixed compression self-ignition internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: A compressed air injection valve 13 directly injecting and supplying compressed air into a cylinder 2 is provided. After premixed air is formed to make equivalence ratio in a cylinder 2 one or more, the same is ignited and burned by injecting compressed air by the compressed air injection valve 13 to make equivalence ratio one or less.
