摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression ignition engine for realizing premix compression ignition without largely deteriorating fuel economy even under an higher operation condition than a conventional load. SOLUTION: This compression ignition engine (a diesel engine 1) performs ignition combustion in a combustion chamber 18 after promoting premix of fuel by injecting fuel in the timing earlier than the compression top dead center. A heat accumulating material 15 is arranged in a proper place (a top part of a piston 14) for easily absorbing heat in compression and combustion in a cylinder and smoothly and easily removing its absorbed heat outside the cylinder. The compression temperature is lowered by absorbing the heat in the heat accumulating material 15 in the compression, and the ignition timing is delayed thereby up to the vicinity of the compression top dead center by restraining excessively early ignition of fuel. Generation of NOx is effectively restrained by cooperating with the restraining action of the combustion temperature by the premix compression ignition by restraining the combustion temperature by absorbing a part of a calorific value in the heat accumulating material 15 in ignition.
