COCKLE FARMING

A method of farming cockles, in which cockle larvae are relocated from the vicinity of spawning mature cockles to a permeable substrate, such as a natural fabric, submerged in sea water in a stackable tray, by passing a jet of fluid adjacent the mature cockles. The larvae settle on the substrate and are fed so as to cause them to grow under controlled conditions on the substrate. When their shells are of a predetermined width, they are relocated to nursery tanks to be brought on.
