Method for pig iron production in a blast furnace with low coke consumption using a high carbon content containing reducing agent (RA) which together with an oxygen enriching high wind (OEHW) or commercial oxygen is fed to the blast furnace. The RA has a preferred weight ratio of C containing material to H greater than 40:1, and the RA is so selected that the reaction temperature with stoichiometric exchange of the RA and the (OEHW) or commercial oxygen to the CO and H2 is preferably in the region of 2000-2200[deg]C.
