摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical magnetic recording medium whose cost is low and which has excellent magnetic characteristics and recording and reproducing characteristics and is capable of attaining higher recording density. SOLUTION: The vertical magnetic recording medium wherein at least a non-magnetic base layer comprising a metal or an alloy having a hexagonal closest packing crystal structure (or a face-centered cubic structure), a magnetic layer comprising a magnetic crystal grain having a hexagonal closest packing crystal structure and a non-magnetic crystal grain boundary (or a magnetic layer comprising a multilayered film having a face-centered cubic crystal structure) and a protective layer are successively layered on a substrate is characterized in that the non-magnetic base layer is formed on a seed layer constituted of a NiCr alloy.
