An electroluminescence device in which a cathode, an electroluminescence layer, a transparent electrode layer, an evanescent light diffusing layer comprising a matrix made of a low refractive index material containing particles that diffuses light, and a light-transmitting body are arranged in order of mention. The total reflection at the interface on the light output side of the transparent electrode layer as well as at the interface with the air layer of a transparent substrate is reduced, thereby greatly improving the light output efficiency. If a barrier layer is provided, the transparent electrode layer and the electroluminescence layer can be protected, and the degradation of the electroluminescence dye and occurrence of a dark spot can be suppressed, thereby prolonging the life of the device. |
