PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine muffler of a simpler structure than a conventional one and capable of reducing manufacturing cost and effectively purifying hazardous component in exhaust gas in mufflers using pellet catalysts for purifying exhaust gas. SOLUTION: The muffler 20 for a small size engine is provided with a muffler main body which consists of an inner shell 2 and an outer shell 23, a pellet catalyst group 25, a catalyst case 26 provided in the muffler main body 21 and retaining the pellet muffler group 25 and including a flow-in side communication opening 26a and a discharge side communication opening 26b, an inflow side screen 27 covering the inflow side communication opening 26a, a discharge side screen 28 covering the discharge side communication opening 26b, and a cover member 29 which covers the discharge side screen 28 from an outside of the muffler main body 21, and has an opening 29h having a smaller opening area than the discharge side communication opening 26b and formed to make exhaust gas uniform contact with the pellet catalyst group 25.
