PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently utilize a nonvolatile memory means by making a single nonvolatile memory means to be used for different purposes. SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus, an HDD14e is logically divided into two regions, i.e., the outer peripheral side is assigned as a RAW region and the inner peripheral side is assigned as a BOX region. When the empty capacity of a volatile memory 14b becomes less than a prescribed amount, image data are transferred to the RAW region of the HDD14e and written into a continuous cluster of the RAW region. When a user instructs preservation of the image data of a job, the image data are read from the volatile memory 14b or the RAW region after the completion of the job and the data are transferred and written into the BOX region.
